Removing Doubts: How Tawḥīd Saved My Faith

“Indeed, the best of speeches is the Book of Allāh and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muḥammad (ﷺ)…”
– Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ (Hadith)

The Crisis of Faith I Didn’t See Coming

I never thought I’d be the one drowning in doubts. I wore the hijab, prayed five times a day, and gave in charity — yet there I was, questioning everything I believed in. It didn’t happen overnight. The whispers crept in gradually: “What if there are other paths?”, “Why do we focus so much on worship?”

Social media debates, articles, and even conversations with friends introduced more confusion than clarity. I didn’t know what was happening — all I knew was that the foundation I once stood on felt like it was crumbling.

That’s when I came across a book that changed everything.

A Forgotten Gem: Kashf al-Shubuhāt (The Removal of Doubts)

I found Kashf al-Shubuhāt — a short treatise by Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (رحمه الله) — almost by accident. I wasn’t looking for a book on theology, I just needed answers. But when I read the first few pages, I felt as if the author knew exactly what I was struggling with.

He addressed the very questions that had been tormenting me, calmly and firmly — not with emotional arguments, but with Qur’ān, Sunnah, and clarity.

Through the commentary by Shaykh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah al-Raajihi, I realized something powerful:

The doubts weren’t intellectual — they were spiritual. I didn’t need more information. I needed to reconnect with Tawḥīd.

The Core of Faith: Knowing Who You Worship

At its heart, Kashf al-Shubuhāt isn’t just a book of refutations. It’s a mirror. It forces you to ask:

  • Who is your Lord?
  • What does it mean to worship Him alone?
  • Are you truly free from shirk in all its subtle forms?

I learned that Tawḥīd al-ʿIbādah — the oneness of worship — is not a mere concept, but a lived reality. It’s about relying only on Allāh in times of fear, loving Him above all, and refusing to direct any act of devotion to anyone else — no matter how righteous they may seem.

How It Rescued Me

By the time I finished the book, I didn’t just feel more confident in Islam — I felt purified. I no longer feared the questions of others. Instead, I welcomed them. Because I now had a framework built on Qur’ān and Sunnah.

I realized that the doubts were never about Islam — they were about me not knowing my faith well enough.

As Imām Abū Ḥanīfah (رحمه الله) said, “al-Fiqh al-Akbar is to know Allāh.” That’s what this book gave me: deeper knowledge of the One I worship.

A Message to You, Dear Reader

If you’ve ever felt shaken by doubts, please know you’re not alone. But also know this: clarity exists. Truth exists. It’s not found in endless scrolling or debates — it’s found in the Qur’ān, the Sunnah, and the works of our scholars.

Start by learning Tawḥīd — the way our Prophet ﷺ taught it, and the way the scholars explained it. Kashf al-Shubuhāt is a perfect place to begin.

“So know, [O Muhammad], that there is no deity except Allāh…”
(Qur’ān 47:19)

May Allāh keep our hearts firm upon His religion and protect us from the whispers of doubt. Āmīn.
