1. The Universe as Proof of a Creator
One of Shaykh As-Sa’dee’s main logical points is that of the argument of creation. He states that the universe existing in all its complexity, order, and harmony requires a Creator. All things in the natural world, from planets in orbit to the accuracy of the human body, function within set laws. Such precision cannot exist in absence of intelligent design.
Qur’anic Reference:
“Were they created by nothing, or were they themselves the creators?” (Surah At-Tur, 52:35). This question in the form of a rhetorical statement compels the mind to face the impossibility of there being creation without a Creator. The design necessitates a Designer. And who is that Designer? He must be One, Knowledgeable, and Perfect.
2. Unity in the System Reveals Unity in the Creator
Shaykh As-Sa’dee highlights the regularity of natural laws and concordance in the universe. The sun, moon, stars, seasons, and biological processes all operate with precision and intention. He contends that if there were more than one god, this system would be thrown into chaos because of disparate wills and decisions. Because the world operates as one system, there would have to be one controller—Allah.
Qur’anic Reference:
“Had there been in the heavens and the earth other gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined.” (Surah Al-Anbiya, 21:22). This statement presents the reasonable inference: oneness of design speaks of the oneness of the Divine Being.
3. The Human Fitrah (Natural Disposition)
Shaykh As-Sa’dee points out that faith in a single, all-powerful Creator is not a religious assertion but is inherent to the nature of human beings. During times of crisis, people naturally turn towards a higher being. Even people who deny God with their tongues tend to yell out in hopelessness when they feel powerless. This fitrah, or innate inclination toward belief in God, is itself a powerful proof. It cannot be erased, only clouded by desires or external influences.

“So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth. [Adhere to] the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created [all] people.” (Surah Ar-Rum, 30:30)
4. Perfection of Allah’s Names and Attributes
The vast majority of the book discusses Allah’s attributes and names (Asma’ wa Sifat). Shaykh As-Sa’dee is saying that to be deserving of worship, He must have absolute perfection attributes—knowledge, strength, wisdom, mercy, justice, etc.
He clarifies that these attributes:
Must have no deficiency at all, Can’t be divided among creation in their absolute quality, Must function at all times without alteration or lack, If Allah is Al-‘Aleem (All-Knowing), then His knowledge has to be perfect and everlasting. If He is Al-Qadeer (All-Powerful), then nothing can overpower Him. Such perfection, the Shaykh contends, cannot be possessed by several beings—only by One.
5. Rejection of Polytheism and Atheism
The Shaykh then makes a forceful critique of atheism and polytheism, demonstrating that they are both logistically incoherent. Polytheism suggests that many gods can coexist in harmony, yet human life demonstrates that various authorities will typically generate strife. Atheism cannot explain the causation and the structure of existence without recourse to randomness, which violates both logic and scientific experience.
So, the sole intellectually and spiritually fulfilling post is belief in One, Perfect Creator—Allah.
